Q |
Does
Todd know about this?
What does he think? |
A |
He
knows. He has approved collection of funds at his solo shows in
Sept. Here's a pic as I presented him with a poster-sized version of the ad. |
Q |
What
is the price of the ad? |
A |
Full
page will be $20,500k. Yeah... twenty thousand, 400 dollars. That's
down from the initial $24K quote. |
Q |
What
happens if you don't reach the full page goal? |
A |
First,
I really think we'll make it. But if we don't get the full page
amount, I'll buy as big an ad as I can. |
Q |
Why
do you need $40K? |
A |
As
of Sept 29 the new projection is $32K. The ad price has been negotiated
down and operation costs are lower than expected. Advertising, shirt
& sticker production, postage, fees: costs are endless. Estimated
operational costs were 40% of gross. (That's down from 56% op costs
on the 30 years project.) But now it's looking more like 30%. |
Q |
I
heard an ad cost $5K. What gives? |
A |
That
is for the Australian version of Rolling Stone only. |
Q |
What
is the status of the project? |
A |
You
can always check the STATUS page for details. |
Q |
Can
I contribute in the name of someone else? |
A |
Yes.
Just indicate what name you would like listed in your message. You
may add as many names as you like for $5 each. Names only, though,
please. |
Q |
Will
you allow political statements or profanity? |
A |
No.
I reserve the right to refuse any contribution or name for any reason. |
Q |
Do
I have to give $5 for the name,
plus an extra $25 for the shirt? |
A |
Give
what your heart tells you. To qualify for the shirt AND get your
name in the ad, the minimum donation is $25. |
Q |
Can
I make a pledge and pay later? |
A |
Of
course. However, the STATUS page list
and the project revenues will only show what has been paid. Also,
only names of pledges paid in full by Oct 12, 2007 will be included
in the final ad. |
Q |
Why
should I pay now? |
A |
It
takes money to raise money. Payments now allow for post cards to
be printed and distributed at shows. Early donations make running
classified ads in major papers possible. Also, the more fans who
show their support now, the easier it will be to encourage others
to join and for media outlets to consider this newsworthy. |
Q |
Who
are you and why are you doing this? |
A |
Some
bio info can be found on the ABOUT page.
As for why I'm doing this...well, because I have to. Todd's music
got me through tough times, but more than that, it elevated my thinking,
and provided me with focus and a way at looking at life with hope.
He deserves recognition for making it, and the work should not be
ignored or forgotten. Someone should do something. I can. So I do.
But it doesn't work without fans. |
Q |
Will
you make money? |
A |
I
certainly hope so! But I take nothing for my time. Any additional
proceeds will be saved for future projects. |
Q |
Fans
have the music and Todd doesn't crave attention, so what's the point? |
A |
The
statement of this ad campaign is that if many fans show they still
care after all these years, maybe the next generation has a reason
to take notice. The music should be known and exposed as widely
as possible. Not shared only by a secret cult. At least that's my
view. |
Q |
Why
Rolling Stone? |
A |
It's
40 years of both Todd music AND Rolling Stone. That's a hook. |
Q |
Rolling
Stone has printed a 40 Years Issue. Isn't it over? |
A |
They
printed two of three planned, actually. There will be another in
November of this year issue number 1039. Cover date of November
11.15.2007 (on sale 11.12.2007). |
Q |
Why
not print in early issues? |
A |
Time.
It takes time to promote and raise money. Todd is on tour, and that
is prime advertising opportunity. Also, the November special issues
is on the visionaries of music predicting the future of Rock and
Roll. That's Todd all over. |
Q |
What
about other mags? |
A |
In
theory, this could go as long as far as fans want. If there is money
left after paying for Rolling Stone, we could do Billboard,
Mojo, Guitar Player... you name it. |
